The Switch 2 is the console that we’ll keep with us often, perhaps even closer than our Steam Decks because we may bring it out for a single session on the go or share it with friends in various ways that you can’t with a PS5, Xbox, or PC. But in 3v3s, you really can’t carry anybody, so you need a good team. As good as the Switch 2 is for local co-op in regular sessions of Split Fiction or Mario Kart World, Nintendo still hasn’t figured out what players want from online multiplayer. Playing games with online video and voice chat is hampered by subpar camera and mic capabilities. The Switch 2’s minuscule built-in microphone is supposed to pick up your voice even when you’re a good six to eight feet from the TV.

We don’t know how this one is but it has a Metacritic score of 81. Hitman has long been one of the best examples of sandbox gameplay in a mainstream video game, where you learn to exploit every inch of a level, and the characters within it, to complete your mission in increasingly unlikely ways. It’s also notable for having the same online features as the other versions, including cross-play, and the ability to GameShare with the Switch 1.

Boosting at the start line is a staple of the Mario Kart series, and with 24-players, it’s more crucial than ever before in Mario Kart World. Most of it, especially the crime-scene investigation sequences, is basically just doling out plot information one piece at a time. When I’m not in conversation with someone, that someone forgets that I’m there. Nothing happens in this world unless I’m invited to make it happen or I’m bearing witness to it.
